Computer Hardware Components
Every computer has several important parts that work together. Learning about these components will help you understand how computers function!
Activity Instructions
- Study the computer parts and their descriptions below
- Look at the printable worksheet
- Print it out and label each part
- You can color the parts if you want!
Inside a Computer
1
CPU (Processor)
The "brain" of the computer that processes instructions
2
RAM (Memory)
Short-term memory that helps run programs
3
Hard Drive
Stores all your files and programs
4
Motherboard
The main circuit board that connects everything
5
Power Supply
Provides electricity to all components
6
Graphics Card
Creates images for your monitor
7
Cooling Fan
Keeps components cool

What Each Part Does
- CPU (Central Processing Unit): Like the brain of the computer, it does all the calculations and processing.
- RAM (Random Access Memory): Temporary memory that holds data your computer is actively using.
- Hard Drive: Stores all your files, photos, videos, and programs even when the computer is off.
- Motherboard: The main circuit board where everything connects together.
- Power Supply: Converts electricity from the wall into the right type for your computer components.
- Graphics Card: Creates the images that appear on your monitor, especially important for games.
- Cooling Fan: Keeps everything from getting too hot while the computer works.
- SSD (Solid State Drive): A newer, faster type of storage with no moving parts.
Did You Know?
- Modern CPUs can perform billions of calculations per second!
- If your computer is running slowly, you might need more RAM.
- The motherboard has special paths called "buses" that let the components communicate.
- SSDs are much faster than traditional hard drives because they have no moving parts.
